Hydraulic Cylinder Repair in Fontana

A hydraulic cylinder is a simple machine with unforgiving tolerances — and a leak is almost never just a seal problem. Our Fontana cylinder bench rebuilds cylinders completely: teardown, measurement of rod, bore and gland, honing and rod work on our own machines, quality seals, and pressure testing before the cylinder goes back on the machine.

Reseal vs. rebuild — know which one you are buying

A reseal replaces the soft parts. Sometimes that is genuinely all a cylinder needs — a young cylinder with a damaged seal and perfect metal. But when the rod is scored, the bore is worn bell-mouthed, or the gland is loose on the rod, new seals are a countdown timer. A rebuild fixes the metal: rods are repaired or manufactured, bores honed or sleeved, glands restored to fit, and the cylinder is tested as a unit.

We tell you which one your cylinder needs, with the measurements and photos to back it up — and the quote before the work.

Bent rods, drift and the other usual failures

Bent rods come from side loads and impacts; the honest fix is a new rod manufactured to spec, not a straightening gamble on a loaded member. Drift under load means internal leakage past the piston — seals, piston wear or bore condition, separated by test. External leaks at the gland point at rod surface and gland fit. Every one of these is daily work here, on cylinders from excavators, loaders, dozers, forklifts, telehandlers, presses and industrial machinery.

Frequently asked questions

My cylinder leaks at the rod. Is a reseal enough?

Only if the rod surface and gland are in good condition. We measure and show you — if the metal is right, a reseal is the honest job; if it is not, we will show you why.

Can you fix a bent hydraulic cylinder rod?

A bent rod under load is a safety item. We manufacture replacement rods to specification rather than straightening a compromised one.

Why does my cylinder drift down under load?

Internal leakage past the piston seals or a worn bore is the usual cause. A drift test isolates whether the cylinder or the control valve is responsible before money is spent.

Do you repair large industrial cylinders too?

Yes — press, lift and industrial cylinders are handled on the same bench with the same rebuild standard.
